This is one of my favorite dishes. It's fried fish cake (which I am not sure is really fried but more "fried," just as fish cake is not really fish cake but fish parts blended and extruded into fish cakes) and cubanelle peppers, which aren't hot, but have a very nice sweetness to them. Much lighter flavor than a bell pepper.
The recipe is pretty much like Maangchi's recipe, but no hot pepper paste, no scallions, no garlic, and instead of corn syrup, maple syrup. Not a strong maple, but still maple syrup. Don't want to bother buying another syrup.
I also use soy sauce.
I fry the onion until it's semi translucent, then add the fish cake and the pepper. When I add the pepper, I add a little water and cover it so it's a little steamed. Once I turn off the heat, I add the sauce.
I have a hard time not eating the entire dish. But I do try to hold back. Sometimes. :)

After Pastrami Queening, Frynn, Frichelle L and I decided we needed to quench our thirst by going to The Penrose.

Did I tell you I went to Wellesley College?
I got contacted by a fledgling Wellesley grad looking for advice in getting into healthcare PR. And coming from Wellesley which has an extremely strong alum network, I responded and gave her the truth- the good, the bad, the ugly, and the asking for more money at every opportunity truth. We Wellesley women have to help each other out.
A long time ago, a Wellesley alum (did I mention I went to Wellesley?) helped me get into healthcare PR even after she told me the dark truth. I just wanted to jump in with both feet first so I did not heed her dire warnings. . Just like this recent grad from Wellesley (did I mention that I...).
I also got her in contact with some of former colleagues. I did this not only because she is a Wellesley alum (did I mention...) but also because she's wicked smaht. So she got a job and I am very proud to have helped mentor her through the process.
One day I got a package in the mail which included a thank you note and a tiny stuffed giraffe wearing a Wellesley t-shirt -- it's also a magnet! -- from said Wellesley alum (did I mention that I went to Wellesley?).
I'm not sure who got the better side of the bargain on this one but I am glad to help a Wellesley sister out. Because I went to Wellesley.

Red Carpet Down 42nd Street - All-Star Baseball Game
Midtown is jammed because of this giant red carpet down 42nd Street in celebration for the All-Star Baseball Game. There will be a parade down this red carpet. According to MLB.com, "The parade will move approximately 80,000 square feet on a red carpet,
beginning at Bryant Park on 42nd Street and Sixth Ave., continuing past
Grand Central Terminal and ending at 42nd Street and Third Ave."
I am not sure how I feel about this, but I have to say it is one helluva PR stunt.

Monster the Frenchie
I was walking to my favorite Goodwill and I saw this dog in the window. The dog was just chilling. Not doing anything in particular. Wasn't anxiously waiting for its hoomans. Just staring at the scenary. Even dogs on the street didn't phase him.
Then I noticed this sign above the dog's head. He's Monster the Frenchie. And he has a Facebook page.
This has got to be the coolest French bulldog I have ever seen.
So nice to meet you, Monster, even if it was through a window.
