If anyone is keeping count...

remember my "cards" complaint? Well, this week, one card. And it's only Monday.

Everybody wants something....

My coworker/friend Frune and I just walked down memory lane. We both actually watched the original "Degrassi Jr. High" in the late 80s. There aren't many people who actually caught the original series which was filmed in Canada, eh? But this is the show which introduced me to the the great Canadian word "aboot."

Frune had (unfortunately or fortunately, you be the judge) this particular Degrassi song in her head. Enjoy!

pooing where I eat

OK, I promised to never say a bad word about work, but I have to share this. I am on this team at work that loves to send celebratory cards, like birthdays, congrats on your promotion/anniversary/new cat, etc. or sympathy cards, e.g., get well soon, sorry to hear about your cat, etc. We have at least one card to sign a week and they get routed through the team as quickly as possible. I just never knew it was possible to send your team members so many cards in so short a period of time.

The only reason I bring this up is because two weeks ago, two cards. Last week, one card. This week, two cards. I am not kidding. I don't know how much we spend at Hallmark, but they are making LOTS of money from my coworkers.

Frannie wanted to see my fire team outfit. Like the vest? My office is

My 2-hour haircut

Yes, my haircut takes two hours. When people say, whaaaa? My response is, have you seen my hair? Well, my hair is naturally curly, which is strange in Asian people, but it's also ridiculously thick. I wouldn't be up for Russian presidency this term. I would have to wait for the next bald man before I can have a go.

Anyway, Frannie wanted photos so I am indulging her here.

Here is the photo of the start of the process. I unfluff my hair and Friyoko at Frevachan on Broome and Crosby Sts. starts by dry cutting my hair.

the beginning - the dry cut 1

we start the 2-hour process of cutting my hair
This takes about 30 minutes or so. Then I go for a wash/condition with their No-Poo and Conditioner. seriously. No-poo. And it takes about 15-20 minutes.

post-wash and condition

Then, when I come back, we go through the drying process. This entails me flipping my hair over and Friyoko scrunches out the water from my hair. And then I sit under the dryer foooorever...

My creation

And this is me post-dryer, but it's not over yet.

almost there!

Friyoko then makes me flip my hair over and fluff it out.

My creation

AND THEN another dry cut:

AND THEN two hours later, NEW HAIR!

voila! it's done!

i miss you, lazygirl!

could we vote a baldie into the oval office?

I just heard Robert Krulwich's segment about how Russians have had a pattern of having leaders with hair on top or not (Note: This phenomenon was after the Communists took power). Literally:

Nikita Khrushchev = bald
Leonid Brezhnev = hairy
Yuri Andropov = bald)
Konstantin Chernenko = hairy
Mikhail Gorbachev = bald
Boris Yeltsin = hairy
Vladimir Putin = very, very thin on top
Dmitry Medvedev = hairy

And there is a fun little jingle about this too.

So I was curious to see if we ever voted any baldies into the Presidency. And because like me, Time magazine, the serious source of news (ahem), queried whether Americans could vote a bald man into office. It turns out Americans only voted two proud, bald men: Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s and Martin Van Buren in 1836. Can Americans get beyond the shiny pate and see the inner beauty (or at least the inner political platform) and vote a bald person into office?

what a morning!

I had to run with a project this morning and had no time to eat breakfast, drink any coffee or go to the bathroom. It made me realize that these are the three elemental points to life. Eat, drink, go potty. And yet, because of work, I couldn't do them. Should I call the UN and claim human right violations?

Look, ma, no teeth!

fraham - no front teeth

My awesome nephew Fraham finally pulled out his front teeth. He has been holding onto his loose teeth like they are gold and won't let anyone or anything near the loose teeth until they are really ready to go. I am so proud!

my digs

Fretischek wanted to see what my place looks like now; so here it is. Please feel free to send me any design ideas. I am at a loss to what to do about the place. Paint the walls? Paint the bookcases? I definitely need to recover the chair, but what kind of fabric and what design, if any? Also, need better storage system - the kind that hides everything. Any ideas?

For Mrs J - who challenged me to eat a Vosges Mo's Bacon Bar...

I love a food challenge. Because I said I loved bacon, Mrs J challenged me to eat the Vosges Mo's Bacon Bar. Chocolate and bacon? BRING IT ON!

vosges mo's bacon bar

me, mid-bite

Overall, the smoky bacon highlighted the sweet notes of the chocolate. And I really liked finding the bacon bits in the chocolate. However, this tiny little bar cost $2.99. It was definitely worth a test try, but not something I would pursue on a regular basis.
