Spills

I am constantly spilling liquids on myself, on furniture, on other people...I could go on and on.

So I am going to log all of the spills I have made.

Good luck!

Photo by Joseph Steinberg (Baltimoron in Korea)
September 26 was Chuseok, which is the major harvest festival and a time to honor your ancestors It's an important holiday in Korea. It's like Thanksgiving, but instead of turkeys and Festivus, you have what's called dduk, visit your ancestors' grave, drink some soju and if you are unlucky, have Festivus. It's important to eat dduk (or tteok) during this time period because it gives you good luck for the rest of the year. I haven't had any dduk yet.

I also missed having miyeokguk (seaweed soup), which you have on your birthday and is also for good luck. So, my luck is low right now.

I better get eatin'.

The Scientist Who First Theorized That Earth Had an Inner Core. Oh, and the scientist was a woman.

Inge Lehmann

Google posted a doodle in honor of the birthday of Inge Lehman, who theorized the existence of the Earth's inner core. She. Was. Awesome.

I don't want to discount her amazing findings and life work, but I am very annoyed that we have to celebrate women who were brilliant scientists, theorists, whateverists. I am annoyed because there should be many women in the sciences. So many that we do not have to point it out. Let's get the girls started on the sciences early and nurture their abilities.

My pal Sophia Yen is a co-founder of SheHeroes, an organization that provides videos of accomplished women in STEM. Check it out.

From Wikipedia:

Inge Lehmann ForMemRS (May 13, 1888 – February 21, 1993) was a Danish seismologist and geophysicist who postulated the existence of an Earth's inner core.[2][3] In 1936, she theorized from existing seismic data an inner core with physical properties distinct from the outer core's and that Earth's core is not a single molten sphere. Seismologists, who had not been able to propose a workable hypothesis for the observation that the P-wave created by earthquakes slowed down when it reached certain areas of the inner Earth, quickly accepted her conclusion.

Maru & Hana making bread

This kneading cats do before they get comfortable (including the circular walk before laying down) is baffling. One of the theories is that they are recalling pressing on their mothers' to increase milk production. Which just goes to show that we all, animals and humans alike, have patterns of behavior that help comfort ourselves.

Regardless it's damn cute.

Here's famous Maru & Hana kneading bread. Of course, Maru sleeps where he's most comfortable. I won't spoil the ending.

It was NEVER a dress

I <3 this campaign

It was NEVER a dress

(c) axosoft

According to the website:

It Was Never a Dress is an invitation to shift perceptions and assumptions about women and the audacious, sensitive, and powerful gestures they make every single day. In science, technology, arts, mathematics, politics, houses of worship, on the streets, and in our homes, insightful women are often uninvited, overlooked, or just plain dismissed. Through storytelling, community building, innovation and creative disruptions, It Was Never a Dress will foster necessary conversations, vital voices, and images from around the world that honor ALL women. When we see women differently… we see the world differently! Stay tuned and keep disrupting.

ROCK ON!

Invisible girl

I tried not being on Facebook and turn my focus on my blog, http://girlladyfriend.blogspot.com/, with links on Twitter and Facebook. I was getting wrapped up in the "news" (some real, some about cute pets) people were sharing and not paying attention to the outside world and my thoughts.

I lasted about three weeks. Not bad, I think.

I am still not on Facebook a lot.

However, I've been watching a lot of crime dramas, especially ones where there are cyber crimes (e.g., CSI: Cyber [horrible, but I'll watch anything], Scorpion). And FB is watching. So is Google. Everyone really is watching. It's impossible not to be followed. I have become a bit paranoid about it all because I was one of the people in the Anthem hack (I feel like everyone I know was on the Anthem list). I also know someone whose SSN was used and the hackers/thieves submitted a tax return in their name.

First, that's horrible. Second, why submit a return? Like they are going to get THAT much money back? I just do not understand it.

So, now I am trying to mellow out about Big Brother watching. It's inevitable.

That being said, if you don't hear from me on FB, don't feel ignored. It's because I am hiding in my post-war bunker.

Yay - More "name" Coca Cola bottles!

The Coke bottles with names are coming back and they are adding more names, which I learned from Ad Age. This is one brilliant campaign. I definitely increased my soda intake (which was non-existent) just because my name or someone else's was on the bottle. I am so influenced by advertising. It's a good thing I don't have cable.

My red lamp

Because there is no natural light in my office I bought this lamp at Goodwill.

Little did I know it's a part of the TV show Elementary's set.

Bedtime

Nomi is now more than 4 and she has turned into an old lady. When it gets close to 11 pm, she goes straight to my bed. I'm never there. She just goes straight to the bed and waits for me to join her. I think now my bed is her bed. And I'm just allowed to sleep there.

Hot Matcha Cha Cha!

My friends Frerin, Frarcy and I stopped by Ippodo Tea, a Japanese Matcha tea house. (Here's Ippodo Tea's Yelp page).

I have never seen this process and it was fascinating. There is a science to it. And there you can watch the entire process.

I got a Matcha Soy Latte. It's delicious but I am buzzing around, full of caffeine. FULL. Let's see if I can sleep tonight.

Here's the small cup from Ippodo. You think, geez, that's small, but in reality, considering the caffeine, it's ginormous. Like a Venti Venti.

Here's the match soy latte from above.

It's very tasty but I might just savor a matcha latte when I really need a super caffeine pick me up.

Here's a video (not from Ippodo) showing the process.

I LOOOOOVE THIS SHOW. But seriously, how much pancake makeup do they have to slop on so that everyone on the show have no pores? No one has a pore.

Can't "Share"

from _DJ_

I am taking a break from Facebook because I find it hard to keep up. And I feel that I've lost the ability to write and read. Seriously. Unless it's a Terry Pratchett book (miss Terry already), I haven't read a book in at least two years. Yes. Two years.

Also, I feel out of touch with what's going on in the world. My daily news sources were Facebook and anything related to reproductive health in the world. Now I am going to try to actually read news on my own and not use "share" to get news.

"Share" is a great tool because I have learned a lot about different topics I would otherwise not know about. But most of my shares have been about cute animals. Cute animals are awesome, but every day? (OK, every day is awesome and must be shared)

My mind is actually having a hard time writing this. I keep moving between verb tenses. Aggravating.

My brain hurts.

Savory doughnuts? Yes, please!

From the Huffington Post, some people came up with mac n' cheese doughnuts, cheddar jalapeño green onion doughnuts, doughnuts monte cristo sliders and other savory doughnuts.

Genius.
