obsession

My friend Frob looked at my blog recently and quietly noted that I pretty much only write about pets and food.

SO? I don't think that's a PROBLEM. No problem here!

Best title evah!

"Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us"
This title is the best! The first time I heard of Paula Deen was when my friend Frate Frarnock made me Gorilla Bread. It was a Paula Deen recipe and it had:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
  • 2 (12-ounce) cans refrigerated biscuits (10 count)
  • 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
I thought Frate was trying to kill me. And now I know - Paula Deen really does want to kill us. I heard her on "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" and she said her son created a hamburger that uses Krispy Kreme doughnuts as a bun. A BUN!!!!! It's called the Lady's Brunch Burger recipe.

KEELING US softly with her love.....

cravings

2 thoughts: I can't get enough of Amy's Bread's chocolate sticks. Essentially a focaccia like breadstick with bits of good chocolate in it. so good. so good.

and google reader - too addictive. I tend to get overwhelmed by the amount of posts from other sites. I am not sure if I can handle checking g-reader every 5 minutes. If I don't check every 5 minutes, I end up with 100 posts to read at the end of the day.

what's that sound?

i just heard thunder. and if I could see more than the building across the alley, I probably would have seen lightning. But of course that building blocks all light so that would be impossible.

typical of nyc living

My friend Fravi is moving out of her 1 bedroom apt into something much smaller. I am not sure what you call an apartment with a living room/kitchen and bed alcove, with a shower in the kitchen. AND it's a 4-story walk-up.

So, she has to get rid of her sofa, bar, kitchen table and bed. I thought about buying her couch until she said it was 83" long. That wouldn't fit into my doorway/hallway! No way. My current couch is 61" long. Ridiculous right?

Well, what's more ridiculous is that I couldn't find my colander. I have several but this one was perfect for medium size jobs. My cleaning lady put it away (side note: the only reason I work is to employ her) and I couldn't find it for two weeks. I looked in all my cabinets and really dug. DUG around for it. And then, I dreamed that I found it in the stove. Lo and behold, the colander was in the stove. WEIRD but TRUE.

Cow runs wild in South Jamaica

Photo Courtesy Animal Care & Control

I love this story. This really smart cow ran away from a slaughterhouse and was caught by the cops and ACC. Now the cow will be sent to a sanctuary to live a long green life. Smart cow.

Banished Word List

I don't know how I ever missed this, but Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, has an annual cliche list (!!!!). They have been creating this list since 1975!!!

Actually, now that I think about it - this list sounds familiar. Hm. Maybe I did know about it, but didn't realize it. That does happen. Whatever. Here's the list for 2009!

Here's a nontoxic but effective way to clean your tub: Add one teaspoon of liquid soap and several drops of an antibacterial essential oil (such as tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, or peppermint) to one cup of baking soda. Add just enough water to form a paste, and use it with a sponge or brush to scour bathtub surfaces.

BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.

Freely's awesome. This video does take a while as he goes through 100 days and 100 songs, but it's totally worth it. I dare you not to get up and start dancing.

My thoughts on this video:

  • I wonder if he has been on Ellen yet. This is exactly something that she would do.
  • And i love his music choices. And the gold lame jacket in #36
  • And i love the interior design of the house in #64
  • LOL- and the striptease at 80
  • i just wish he would pull up his pants. And share that kitten shirt.

Plaza Hotel Amenities

No, I am not staying at the Plaza hotel, but my friend Fryn who is visiting from DC thought her friend was staying at the Plaza (it turned out that the friend is staying at the Waldorf Astoria, which is really neither here nor there). I decided to see how much a regular weekend is at the Plaza (Friday check-in, Sunday, check-out). The best rate available for the weekend of Feb. 20th is $705 per night (not incl. taxes). Fine. That is to be expected for a room that is almost the size of my apartment WITH butler service. However, what gets me is that they CHARGE YOU for internet service. Don't you think that for $700+/night you could get free internet service? I mean, really Plaza? Really? I know that hotels will charge out the wazoo for room service and movies, but I would think in this day and age, they wouldn't charge internet. That's just insanity.

Common Amenities
All hotel rooms and suites at The Plaza, New York offer the following amenities:

  • Beaux Arts inspired décor including chandeliers
  • White glove butler service on every floor
  • Twice daily housekeeping service
  • Guest Services Panel- connects each guest with a vast array of services from The Plaza, as well as cultural venues and the exquisite new Plaza Retail Collection
  • Wireless tablet controls guestroom and suite contour lighting, heating and entertainment
  • High Speed Internet Access (Wireless and wired for $14.95 / 24 hrs)
  • IP-based high definition video-on-demand system
  • Sophisticated telephone and networking technology
  • Wall mounted flat screen televisions
  • Cutting edge guestroom electronic locking system
  • Exquisite inlaid “earth stone” mosaic tiled Plaza bathroom, most with glass shower and sunken bathtub
  • 24-carat gold plated Sherle Wagner bathroom faucets and accessories with hand crafted solid white marble vanities
  • 100% cotton oversized Mascioni bath towels and Mascioni linens made exclusively for The Plaza
  • Lavish terry or light weight bathrobe
  • Signature Miller Harris toiletries created exclusively for The Plaza
  • Hairdryer
  • Refrigerated private bar
  • 24-hour In-room dining
  • Spacious closets
  • Suit, skirt and padded hangers
  • In-room safe
  • iLuv Stereo Audio System with clock radio
  • DVD player
  • Music and video library access
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Newspapers
  • Fax machine upon request
